This colourful scarf is made from Gajji silk, an Indian silk found in the state of Gujarat. In shades of bright green, blue and yellow, the fabric has a three-dimensional feel because of the process by which it is made.
The Bandhani (Tie & Dye) method is used to make the scarf – the fabric is knotted, pinched, and threaded, and then dyed in a host of magical hues. The parts of the fabric which are pinched and threaded, retain the base colour, while the rest of the fabric gets dyed in different colours. A very tedious and painstaking process, the scarf has gone through multiple knots, ties and dyes to give it the range of colours.
